Catalogers by and large are more optimistic about their near-term future
than they have been in recent years, judging by the respondents to our
Benchmark Report on Critical Issues and Trends. And they have good reason
to feel that way. Considerably more repondents met or exceeded sales and
profitability plans last year than fell short of plan.
Among the critical issues, respondents to Catalog Age's exclusive survey
are more concerned about customer service expectations and less worried
about use-tax and privacy than last year's survey participants were. And
as far as industry trneds go, more mailers are setting out to become true
multichannel marketers: Nearly 90% have their own Website, and the percentage
of respondents with full price status stores was more than double the
percentage last year.
